Ysolda Teague - Snapdragon Tam

A cosy tam featuring an allover lattice cable pattern, with petals (or perhaps they’re little flames) that grow organically in the centre of each open section.

 

Although the instructions look lengthy and the chart may seem a little daunting Snapdragon is surprisingly simple to knit, and of course you can work from either written or charted directions. Whether worked in a bright glowing colour or a cool neutral Snapdragon is a fun pattern that’s sure to cheer up dreary winter days and would make a perfect gift. Complete a cute matching set by making the Snapdragon flip-tops.

 

Materials

180[220, 260]yds / 165[200, 240]m light worsted (dk) weight yarn.

Shown in Madelinetosh Tosh DK (100% superwash merino, 225yds / 206m, 3.52 /100g) in Gilded.

Size 6 US / 4mm 16” / 40cm circular

Size 6 US / 4mm dpns

Marker, a removable marker will make things easier.

Gauge

20 sts and 28 rnds = 4” / 10cm in st st

Sizes

s[m, l] – to fit size – 18[22, 26]” / 46[56, 66]cm, finished circumference 16[20, 24]” / 41[51, 61]cm

Shown in size M (2” of negative ease). For a looser, slouchier hat, work a larger size which may make band too loose. This can be counteracted by working it on smaller needles or threading elastic through at the end.
