This shawl is large, making it wonderful to wrap up in for a stroll in the garden, or an elegant evening out.

This shawl was inspired by a lace motif in Sophia Caulfeild’s Dictionary of Needlework, first published in 1882. The top-down construction allows the design to flow downward, giving the feeling of feathers dripping from a stick frame, just as in Greek mythology, Icarus’ feathers melted from their frame as he came too close to the sun.

This pattern was first published in Interweave Knits Magazine, Summer 2006 Issue.

Yarn Requirements: 4 oz of Jaggerspun Zephyr Laceweight (50% Merino Wool, 50% Tussah Silk) in color Pewter.

Suggested Needles: 3.25 mm (US 3) 24" circular needle.

Gauge: 21 sts & 38 rows per 4” in stockinette after blocking.

Finished Size: 72” across the top, and 36” from neck to point.

Techniques Used: This pattern uses the following techniques: knit, purl, k2tog, p2tog, yo, place marker, slip1 stitch, ssk, yo4, psso, k1f&b.
